Drat.

It seems there was a problem with the official camera at the Hipnosis bellyjam, and we won’t be receiving a copy of our performance. If anyone has any footage of the event, can you please let me know? I don’t imagine that we’ll be doing that same routine again, and I’d really like to see how it looked!

Costume tutorial

2 12 2009

We here at Rag Tag like to make our own costumes. And it seems we aren’t alone in that…. tribal dancers love to get crafty! So I think I’d like to do a how-to for some costume pieces…. anyone interested in anything in particular? Coin bras, silly skirts, fringe belts, hair accessories… possibilities are endless.

hairfeather clip

The first project I’m thinking… hair feather clips! Not only do these look great with costumes, they’re fantastic for adding some fun to fancy outings. It might take me a while to get the whole how-to complete, so check in now and again to see the progress. I’m planning on making a few for holiday presents anyway, so it’ll be a multiply productive project.

You can leave comments here with specific requests, or send an email to ragtagtribal@gmail.com

Jes and I will be performing a duet at the Hipnosis Bellyjam on November 14th. The location is TBD, but the show guest stars Asharah and Belladonna, so should be pretty fantastic. More information will be posted when we get it, so stay tuned. Till then- check out the new Beats Antique EP! You can listen on their site, and pay a little bit to download it. Their music is a favorite around here, and I’m glad to have some more songs to throw into rotation!

Videos are up!

22 09 2009

Thanks to the ever diligent Laura, we have some video of our performance at John and Peter’s Friday night. The whole show was taped with a real videocamera, but Laura’s little point and shoot will tide us over till we get to see that footage. Of course, since we were performing in a dark bar, its a little tough to make out… one more reason to come see us in person!

For your viewing pleasure (links to both songs are under the embedded video, which is our second song):

Burlesque and bands and dancing, oh my!

19 09 2009

I hope to post a link to the video of our performance soon, but till then, here’s a link to some flickr photos. My camera is terrible inside, so they aren’t great, but its at least a little taste of the show (many thanks to my Mum who took some shots for us during the performance). The performance space was a bit funky- low ceilings, taped down cardboard floor… but the crowd was great, no one hit their head or slipped, and the burlesque girls who invited us to the show were quite lovely. This Way to the Egress opened the show- we were busy getting ready, so didn’t really get to watch them perform, but from everything I heard (both through the floorboards to the dressing room and from friends and family in the crowd) they put on a really good show and were a great band, I recommend checking them out, if you like bands with cellos and accordions. Which I do, of course. 🙂

Many thanks to the ladies of “Widow Svedka’s Black Hearts Memorial” for inviting us to join their show for the night, and thanks to everyone who came out to cheer us on.

New dances, lots of fun coming up

12 08 2009

I’m very excited about the new routine we’re working on…. some new costumes, and some really great music, its going to be a lot of fun. We’re working on something a bit more theatrical than usual, and the change-up has been very interesting.

We’ve got a show coming up, check in on our performance page for the details. Its at a bar  in New Hope with some burlesque dancers and live music. Our performance will be a pared down version of Rag Tag, but with extra special guest dancer Michelle (who is really the matriarch of Rag Tag anyway), lots of fun, not to miss.

***Due to some major schedule conflicts, we’ve bowed out of the previously listed and mentioned festival in Wenonah, NJ…. sorry to anyone hoping to see us there, but I’m sure it will be a fun festival anyway!***
